POPULAR US BURGER CHAIN IS SET TO OPEN ITS FIRST UK TRAIN STATION RESTAURANT WITH A NEW BRANCH AT ST. PANCRAS INTERNATIONAL

A popular American burger chain is to open its first restaurant in a UK train station this summer, to the delight of fast food fans.

Shake Shack will unveil a sparkling new eatery at St. Pancras International in London, offering the chain's signature menu items, such as breakfast burgers, crinkle-cut fries and ShackMeister Ale, alongside items unique to the station site, The Caterer reported.

Nestled within the bustling Eurostar terminal, the latest addition marks Shake Shack's 16th location in the UK since its debut in Covent Garden in 2013.

Situated in one of London's busiest transportation hubs, the new branch promises to be a beacon for hungry passengers seeking a satisfying meal on the go.

Signalling a strategic expansion into high-traffic transportation hubs, it will be the brand's second site within a travel hub, joining its venue at Gatwick Airport's North Terminal, which opened in October 2019.

Shake Shack initially started out as a simple hot dog cart in New York run by Randy Garutti, who is currently serving as the director of operations for Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group.

In 2004, its first kiosk site was launched in New York - fast forward two decades and it now operates around 400 restaurants in the United States and worldwide.

The majority of Shake Shack's UK sites are based in London, but over recent years branches have been opened at Lakeside shopping centre in Essex, Gatwick Airport in Sussex, Oxford and Cardiff.

Danny Meyer remains chairman of Shake Shack, which held an IPO in 2015.

It comes as U.S. pizza giant Papa Johns will shut 43 'underperforming' restaurants across Britain - nearly a tenth of its total stores.

The chain - which has 450 branches up and down the country - is expected to begin closing the restaurants by mid-May following a consultation process. .

The company has not confirmed how many staff will be impacted by closures, but has said that all staff impacted by this decision have been informed.

However, Papa John's staff have revealed they were left in tears after the pizza chain announced dozens of shops would be closed.

Staff said they had been left in the dark about their future - while one worker even said he wasn't even told that his branch is shutting.

At the East Dulwich branch in south London, manager Mike Kabuye said that he was only informed of the potential closure on Monday, and he is scared for himself and his staff going forwards.

The 38-year-old said: 'We were shocked because this shop has always had a lot of people.

'I am worried not only for myself but for my team members. My workers are scared, and they are coming to me crying.'
