FULL LIST OF EASTER BANK HOLIDAY OPENING HOURS FOR MAJOR SUPERMARKETS: TESCO, ASDA, ALDI AND MORE

  • You do not want to be caught short when getting some last minute shopping in
  • Supermarkets have to operate under adjusted trading times during Easter
  • So, when are the different big stores open? Find out by reading on below

As the Easter bank holiday weekend rolls in, many of us will have plans which could require some last-minute shopping.

Whether you are buying the chocolate for the Easter egg hunt, getting a bottle of wine for a generous host, or grabbing some extra veg for your slap-up roast, the last thing you need is to be caught out by unusual opening hours.

While smaller shops can open whenever they like, even on Easter Sunday, stores over 280 square metres must obey different trading-hour requirements.

However, some exceptions could be in cases of railway, airport and service station stores.

To make sure you are not caught short, see the list of supermarket opening times below.

Supermarket Easter bank holiday weekend opening hours

Tesco

Many Tesco superstores will be open as early as normal on Good Friday, but those which usually open late will close earlier than normal, at 10pm.

Easter Saturday is unaffected for all stores on this list as no different trading rules apply.

All larger stores will then be closed on Easter Sunday, except in Scotland where they will remain open. Scottish stores will also close at normal times on Good Friday.

Some larger stores have also announced they will be operating on reduced hours, opening between 8am and 8pm on Easter Monday.

You can check your local store's specific times on Tesco's store locator.

Asda

Asda have advised that on Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday, most shops will open from 7am to 10pm, but some may open as early as 6am.

They will be closed on Easter Sunday, except in Scotland where they will remain open.

Store times can be double-checked on Asda's store locator.

Aldi

Aldi supermarkets will be open as normal on Good Friday and Easter Saturday, opening from 8am to 10pm.

They will then be closed on Easter Sunday, before re-opening for a shortened 12 hours on Easter Monday from 8am to 8pm.

Shoppers can check their local Aldi opening times with their store finder.

Sainsbury's

Most Sainsbury's superstores will open from 7am to 10pm for the first half of the long weekend, but a few may open at 8am, or close at 11pm.

You can check you local Sainsbury's opening times on their store locator.

On Easter Sunday, all will be closed across the UK, besides Scotland.

Easter Monday will see the majority of shops open from 8am to 8pm and convenience 'Local' stores will open from 7am to 10pm.

Morrisons

Stores will be open on Good Friday from the usual 7am to 10pm.

All Morrisons supermarkets will be closed on Easter Sunday, except for those in Scotland where they will open as normal.

On Easter Monday, most outlets will be open form 7am to 8pm with some remaining open until 10pm.

Morrisons also have a store finder for customers to check if theirs is in that group.

Waitrose

Most Waitrose supermarkets will be open from 8am to 8pm on Good Friday, though these times will vary as some are set to close at 9pm.

Almost all Waitrose shops, including in Scotland, will be closed on Easter Sunday, with a few exceptions.

On Easter Monday, the majority will be open from 8am to 8pm, with some Little Waitrose stores opening from 6am to midnight.

Shoppers have been advised to check which of these different times their local store will operate under on the Waitrose store finder.

Lidl

Most Lidl stores will be open as usual on Good Friday and Easter Saturday, meaning opening from either 8am to 10pm or 7am to 9pm.

They will be closed on Easter Sunday and many will be open for reduced hours from 8am until 8pm on Monday.

However, this can vary, so you can use the Lidl store finder to check yours.

Co-op

With many Co-ops small enough to be exempt from the restrictions applying to their larger rivals, they can stay open as usual over the Easter weekend.

The few larger stores will still have to close - apart from in Scotland - on Easter Sunday, however.

Customers can verify whether their local is one of those open as usual with the Co-op store finder online.
