COLES CUSTOMER FUMES OVER 30 MINUTE DELAY AFTER PAYING WITH CASH

A Coles shopper is furious with her local supermarket after being forced to wait 30 minutes to pay for her groceries using cash.

The customer claimed that she had no choice but to use a self-serve checkout at Coles Dubbo, in central NSW, because there were no manned registers available.

She inserted $50 notes into the machine, but it froze before it could dispense the change with two Coles workers spending the next half-an-hour trying to fix it.

The shopper, who vowed to never use self-serve again, said the employees eventually got the change from another till.

The customer shared her experience on Facebook alongside a photo of two employees trying to fix the machine after it seized up.

'Went to Coles. Nothing else open in town,' she wrote.

'There was no one at the registers. So I had to use self checkout. Which I never use.

'I put in 3 x $50, then machine stopped. I refused the offer to re do the transaction on a card. They had my money!'

'So almost 30 minutes and finally they gave me change out of the till. NEVER AGAIN under any circumstances will I use self checkout!

'Cash is still king.'

Social media users were outraged over the shopper's experience.

'I point blank refuse to use robots, I'll always go manned,' one said.

'Should charge them for the time wasted. What a joke,' another wrote.

'Give the self-serve a big miss and go to the service desk,' a third person suggested.

Another responded: 'Did you charge them for your time?'

A fifth person said: 'You live and learn. Self-serve checkouts never worked for me, now I always use manned checkout with cash.'

It is understood that Coles has no plans to remove cash self-service options, and will always have team members in the service area to help their customers.
