ANNASTACIA PALASZCZUK REVEALS NEW CAREER MOVE

Annastacia Palaszczuk will take up a job with Australia's renewable energy industry body, just months after her shock departure from politics.

The former Queensland premier will become an international ambassador for the Smart Energy Council (SEC), an independent body that advocates for renewable energy businesses.

Ms Palaszczuk's role on the Canberra-based council will be unveiled to SEC members on Wednesday.

Her first major task will be to lead the body's delegation to China to discuss solar panels, hydrogen production and electrical vehicles with 'distinguished Chinese enterprises' in June, The Courier Mail reported.

Smart Energy Council recently advised stakeholders about the appointment

Ms Palaszczuk isn't expected to have any formal engagement with the Queensland government in her first post-politics job.

Ms Palaszczuk, who announced her shock resignation in December after eight years in the top job, previously spoke at an event organised by the SEC in 2020 entitled 'Stimulus Summit: A Renewables-led Economic Recovery'.

'I'm very excited about the future for Queensland when it comes to renewable energy,' Ms Palaszczuk told delegates at the time.

She spruiked the state's solar, wind and hydrogen capabilities.

‘I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved through our renewable energy policies,' she added.

'This year we are on track to exceed 20 per cent of energy generation from renewables and the number of jobs supported has more than doubled.

‘It’s a great story up here in Queensland. This has involved $6 billion worth of investment, 5,300 construction jobs to build 3,240 megawatts of renewable energy capacity.’

It is understood Ms Palaszczuk will not have any formal engagement with the Queensland government in her new role.

It was revealed last month that Ms Palaszczuk had hired high-profile celebrity publicist Max Markson who is tasked with building a career for her on the speaking circuit across Australia and abroad.

PR king Mr Markson has organised speaking tours for world leaders and international celebrities including Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela and Mike Tyson
